Australian Plane Crash Leaves Two Dead, Ten Injured

(MENAFN) Two people are dead and ten others have been rushed to hospital after a light aircraft plunged into a hangar at a training airport in South Australia Wednesday afternoon, triggering a major fire at the scene.

South Australian police confirmed that emergency services were dispatched following reports of a small plane colliding with a hangar structure while attempting to land at Parafield training airport, located 15 kilometers north of central Adelaide, at approximately 2:10 p.m. local time.

Chief Inspector Andrew McCracken, speaking to reporters at the scene, confirmed that both occupants aboard the aircraft perished in the impact. Of the ten individuals inside the hangar at the time of the collision, one was transported to hospital in a life-threatening condition with severe burns, while two others sustained serious injuries.

An Australian broadcasting agency reported that a significant number of student pilots were safely evacuated from the site in the immediate aftermath of the crash.

Firefighting authorities confirmed the impact ignited a substantial blaze, which was further intensified by fuel stockpiled within the hangar.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau identified the aircraft as a twin-engined Diamond DA42 in an official statement, and confirmed it has deployed a team of investigators set to arrive at the scene Thursday. Upon arrival, personnel will begin evidence-gathering operations — including the recovery of aircraft components for technical examination and the formal interviewing of witnesses.
